Common questions

What counts as "high-hazard" workers' comp?

Class codes with higher injury rates and higher base rates, such as roofing, framing, excavation, steel erection, oil and gas work, and heavy manufacturing. Many standard carriers limit or decline these classes.

Why do you need 4 years of currently valued loss runs?

Underwriters price on recent, up-to-date claim history. "Currently valued" means the report was run in the last 60–90 days, so open claims show their latest reserves.

What is an e-mod worksheet?

It's the experience modification calculation from the WCIRB (in California). It shows how your claims compare to similar businesses and directly changes your premium.

Is there a minimum premium?

Our high-hazard markets are built for accounts paying roughly $50,000 or more a year in California comp. Smaller contractors can use our contractor comp page.

When should I start shopping?

60 to 90 days before your renewal gives underwriters time to review your submission and compete for it.
